This week reception have been thinking about how Jesus was the most precious gift of all at Christmas time. We talked about how Jesus brought love and joy to Christians. We then talked about different invisible presents we could give to people this Christmas. Not all presents cost money – we can give the gift of love, friendship and helpfulness to others. We posted our ideas into the Christmas box.

Year 1 had a fantastic time taking part in a Winter Warmer workshop with Sandra. We learned all about fire safety and then Sandra showed us how she lights the fire using a flint and steel. Everyone enjoyed warming up around the fire and toasting marshmallows to create some delicious s’mores!

Year One had a fantastic afternoon at the tennis festival at Boldon School on Friday. The children enjoyed taking part in a range of racquet activities and showed excellent teamwork! We were extremely proud of their behaviour…well done Year One! A big thank you to Hannah Jeffrey from Boldon Lawn Tennis Club, Mrs. Legg and the staff & Year 8 pupils of Boldon School for hosting such a fun day!

This week in Year One we have enjoyed reading our new book all about a house in the woods! In Maths we have been looking at subtraction and finding all the related facts for a group of numbers. After all our hard work, we relaxed with some mindful breathing and yoga stretches. Everyone loved the arrival of snow on Wednesday and Thursday and we had a great time playing outdoors!

This week in Year 1, we have been busy across all of our subjects!
In Maths, the children have been working on addition word problems, using number lines to help them solve real-life scenarios.
In English, we wrote a senses poem about the woods, linked to our new text A House in the Woods. The children also took part in a conscience alley, debating whether the pigs in the story should run away or not.
In RE, we explored why we receive gifts at Christmas and what these gifts represent.
In Geography, the children learned about the four flags of the UK and how they come together to create the Union Flag.
As part of Anti-Bullying Week, we took part in a Now Press Play session and discussed the importance of respect and kindness. We also shared a thoughtful Poppy poem in assembly to show our respect for Remembrance Day
In Music, we compared different styles of music and talked about how they make us feel.
Finally, in DT, the children designed their very own moving Christmas card, thinking carefully about creative design and which mechanism will be used
